Think you need to build a big expensive forge to get started forging blades? Well, think again! The Single Brick Forge popularized by reknowned bladesmith Wayne Goddard is the essence of simplicity. With the use of two 2500 degree soft insulating firebricks and a Benzomatic propane torch available at Walmart or any of the home improvement stores, Wayne forges blades up to 10 inches with this set-up. The half brick at the back is carved part way through. One way it extends the chamber, the other makes it smaller. The main forge body brick is reinforced with wire wrapped around it to ensure it's integrity over repeated use and transport. This set-up is simple, effective, and a great way to get started in forging your own blades or to have as a travel forge. The small propane bottles are readily available or you can purchase an adapter to refill them using your main propane bottle or the 20# propane bottle that comes with gas grills!
