Paul Moore's Forge
For his forge, Paul used a piece of 4" diameter x 12" long schedule 40 pipe. As you can see
in the picture above and below, the back end is capped off with a piece of steel plate. The
lining consists of a combination of Ceramic Fiber Blanket with a castable refractory poured
over top of it. Paul placed the Ceramic Fiber Blanket inside the forge in the normal fashion
and then put a 2" PVC pipe directly in the middle to act as a mold. He then poured a
castable refractory around this mold and allowed it to dry before before pulling out the
mold pipe and heat curing the castable refractory. He formed the mouth of the forge using
the same castable refractory he poured the forge with.

The legs are cast bolt handles for Remington rifles. A 3/4" pipe nipple is welded in the side
just above the centerline for the burner. The forge is painted with black VHT high
temperature paint. Here's what Paul has to say about the forge and burner: " I use the
same torch as some of the rest, Bernzomatic. The handy belt clip holds the torch head in
place. Adjust in and out to find the right mixture. The sound and lack of flame out the end
will tell you when it is right. Very little heat excapes out the front of the forge. I was
suprised and pleased."
