Steve Sando's Forge
24" long x 8" diameter pipe with a 2" retainer ring welded on both ends
(to keep the fiber contained and provide some abrasion protection to the Ceramic Fiber
Blanket). 2" of Ceramic Fiber Blanket, 2 fire bricks. Coating of something (Steve forgot
what) to stabilize the fibers (Satanite/ITC-100?).
This picture shows the placement of the bricks in the bottom of the forge and the first 1" of
Ceramic Fiber Blanket. You can also see the 2 burner holders and the angle in which they
enter the forge tangent to the circle of the forge pipe.
Here's the thing running with naturally aspirated venturi burner. Steve has spots for 2
burners, However, he says it's running fine with one near the opening. The burner is held
on to the burner holders with a hose clamp.
This forge definitely runs hot! Steve also uses soft firebricks in front of the front and rear
openings to control the opening size and to help retain more heat.
