Terry Dodson's Forges This page shows some Terry Dodson's various forges he works with. Terry has come up with some innovative ideas for making forges from everyday items. These forges exemplify the fact that a simple forge can work, and work well! |
The above photo shows Terry's double coffee can forge in which he has welded two standard coffee cans together and lined them with Inswool coated with sealer such as Satanite/ITC-100. His burner is a standard JTH-7 propane torch available from the local hardware stores |
The photo above and the two directly below show this forge in operation. This forge easily reaches forging and heat treating temperatures! |
The three photos below show some of Terry's single brick forges patterned after the Wayne Goddard style single brick forge. As you can see, these forges are an easy adequate solution to a simple forge, and one that is extremely portable as well! |
Last, but certainly not least, Terry needed a longer forge for heat treating and making swords, so he used a stove pipe as the forge shell available at any home improvement store. Be sure to get the nongalvanized variety if you go this route. The inside is lined with Inswool and topcoated with a sealer such as Satanite/ITC-100 |
